RESERVATION RULES

  • IMPORTANT FOR SENIOR CITIZENS :
  • From 1st September 2001 onwards, concession to senior citizens through PRS (Passenger Reservation System) shall be granted only on demand and not by default as at present. The demand for concession shall be made on Reservation Requisition form in the case of reserved tickets. In the case of tickets issued to senior citizens on concession, during journey the concerned passengers are instructed to carry some documentary proof showing their age or date of birth, issued by any Government Institution/Agency/Local Body. like Identity card, Driving License, Passport, Educational certificate, certificate from Local Bodies like Panchayat/Corporation/Municipality, or any other authentic and recognised document. This documentary proof of age should be produced if demanded by some Railway official during the journey.

    The minimum age for availing concession is 58 years in case of WOMEN SENIOR CITIZENS and element of concession is 50% in Basic Fare only. The minimum age for availing concession is 60 years in case of MEN SENIOR CITIZENS and element of concession is 40% in Basic Fare only. There will be no change in other terms and conditions in both the cases.(Railway Board No.TCII/2161/2011/SRC/Policy dated 13.05.2011)

  • GENERAL CONDITIONS :
  • The Railway Administration reserves seats, berths, compartments, or carriage in accordance with the rules and conditions published in the Coaching Tariff. A passenger seeking reservation of berth or seats should purchase tickets from the Railway Reservation Offices/Authorised Travel Agency only.

    Advance reservations are made generally up to 60 days in advance for all classes and all trains. The period of advance reservation (ARP) is exclusive of the day of departure of the train.

    At intermediate stations where the train arrives on the following day, such reservations can be done more than 60 days in advance of date of journey from the intermediate station. ARP is in relation to the date of journey from train originating station. In case of some Inter-city day trains, the ARP is less.

    An individual can book only up to six passengers on one requisition form provided all passengers are for the same destination and for the same train.

    w.e.f. 01-12-2012,any one of the passenger booked on a PNR for undertaking journey in any class will have to produce any one of the 10 prescribed proofs of identity in original) during the journey failing which all the passengers booked on that ticket will be treated as traveling without ticket and charged accordingly. (ref. Railway Board letter no.2011/TG-I/20/P/ID dated 01-11-2012)

    1.Voter Photo identity card issued by Election Commision of India.

    2.Passport

    3.PAN Card issued by Income Tax Department.

    4.Driving Licence issued by RTO.

    5.Photo identity card having serial number issued by Central/State Government.

    6.Student Identity Card with photograph issued by recognized School/College for their students.

    7.Nationalized Bank Passbok with photograph.

    8.Credit cards issued by banks with laminated photograph.

    9.Unique Identification Card "Aadhaar".

    10.Photo identity cards having serial number issued by Public Sector Undertaking of State/Central Government, District Administration,Municipal bodies and Penchant Administration.

    As per railway board letter no.2011/tg-i/20/p/id dated 10.01.2013 attested photocopy of ration card with photograph and nationalized bank passbook with photographs shall also be accepted as a prescribed proof of identity only in case of reserved tickets booked through computerized passenger reservation system (PRS) counters, for undertaking journey in sleeper (SL) and second reserved sitting (2S) classes.The photocopy of the ration card with photograph and nationalized bank passbook with photograph should be attested by gazetted officer or the chief reservation supervisor or station manager/station master. The above provision is not applicable for all classes of e-tickets & tatkal tickets and tickets issued through prs counter for travelling in air-conditioned classes and first class. travelling with these categories of tickets shall continue to be governed by existing instructions.

    TATKAL SCHEME

    • As per announcement made in the Railway Budget 2013-14, It has been decided to revise Tatkal Charges as given below.
    • The Tatkal Charges have been fixed as a percentage of fare at the rate of 10% of basic fare for second class and 30% of basic fare for all other classes subject to minimum and maximum as given in the table below.

    • The above charges will be levied uniformly both in peak period & non-peak periods.
    • Tatkal tickets will be issued for actual distance of travel, instead of end-to-end, subject to the distance restriction applicable to the train.
    • The same Tatkal berth/seat may be booked in multiple legs till preparation of charts. At the time of preparation of charts, unutilized portion may be released to the General RAC/Waiting list passengers.
    • Tatkal facility is also available in Executive Class of Shatabadi Express trains also, by earmarking 10% of the accommodation available i.e. 5 seats per coach.
    • Tatkal booking opens at 10 AM for AC Classes and 11 AM for NON-AC Classes on One days in advance actual date of journey excluding date of journey w.e.f. of 15.06.2015(commercial circular no:34 of 2015). e.g. for train leaving on 6th, Tatkal Booking will Commence at 10 AM for AC Classes on 5th and at 11 AM for NON-AC Classes on 5th.
    • No duplicate Tatkal tickets shall be issued. Duplicate Tatkal tickets shall be issued only in exceptional cases on payment of full fare including Tatkal charges.
    • Tatkal tickets shall be issued only on production of one of the ten prescribed proofs of identity shown under (as mentioned in Commercial Circular No.68 of 2012 issued vide letter No.2011/TG-I/20/P/ID dated 01.11.2012) as per procedure explained below:-

    1. Voter Photo identity card issued by Election Commision of India.

    2. Passport.

    4. Driving Licence issued by RTO.

    5. Photo identity card having serial number issued by Central/State Government.

    6. Student Identity Card with photograph issued by recognized School/College for their students.

    7. Nationalized Bank Passbok with photograph.

    9. Unique Identification Card "Aadhaar".

    10. Photo identity cards having serial number issued by Public Sector Undertaking of State/Central Government, District Administration,Municipal bodies and Penchant Administration.

    a. For this purpose, a self attested photo copy of the proof of identity of anyone passenger shall be attached to the requisition slip.

    b. The details of the identity proof shall be captured by the system and indicated on the reserved tickets as well on the reservation chart.

    c. It will not be mandatory for the passenger(s) to go to the counter to book the Tatkal ticket, however, the proof will have to be sent in the aforementioned manner.

    d. During the journey, the passenger, whose identity card number has been indicated on the ticket, will have to produce original proof of identity indicated on the ticket, failing which all the passengers booked on the ticket shall be treated as traveling without ticket and charged accordingly. Indication will come on the ticket regarding carrying the same original proof of identity during the journey, as indicated on the ticket.

    e. If the passenger whose identity card number is indicated on the ticket is not traveling, all other passengers booked on that ticket, if found traveling in train, will be treated as traveling without ticket and charged accordingly.

    New Facilities In E-Ticket

    1) AMENDMENT IN E-TICKET SCHEME:-

    On and from 01-11-2008 the provision for specifying I/D proof at the time of booking an e-ticket has been dispensed with. The accommodation booked is not transferable and is valid only if one of the passenger booked on an e-ticket in a transaction presents any of the identity cards(Voter identity card/Passport/ Pan card/Driving license/Photo I/d card of Central/State Government/ Student Identity Card with photograph issued by recognized School/College for their students/Nationalised Bank Passbook with photograph.)during train journey in original and same will be accepted as proof of identity failing which the passengers will betreated as travelling without ticket and shall be dealt with as per extant Railway Rules.

    2) Change of boarding station & change in name of E-Ticket passenger:-

    • For getting these facilities, customer can now approach the nearest Railway Reservation Office with ‘Electronic Reservation Slip’ print out and photo identity proof of one of the passanger traveling in the ticket at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure of train as per extant Railway rules.
    • Please note that reservation offices can change ‘Boarding Station’ & ‘Passenger Name’ against a request from the passanger as per extant railway rules applicable to other face to face counter booked tickets.
    • Facility in the name change of passenger holding confirmed e-reservation has been permitted as per extant Railway rules noted as under:-

    a.Where the passenger makes a request in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure of train to the nearest Railway Reservation office. It can be transferred to an-other member of his family, meaning, Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Son, Daughter, Husband and Wife. He should bring the ‘Electronic Reservation Slip’ print out along with photo identity card proof & a proof for blood relation desired to be changed .

    b.Where the passenger is a Government Servant proceeding on duty and appropriate authority, makes a request in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure of train.

    c.Such request will be granted once only.
